Boiled Lobster

Description: No need to don a bib in the seafood restaurant - make these at home in a stock pot, crack the shells with nutcrackers, and dip the lobster meat in lemon juice or some melted butter and drip all you want.

Cook Time: 1/2 hour

Servings: 1 lobster per person

Equipment

  • Large pot & lid

  • Sheet pan

  • Nut or shellfish cracker

Ingredients

  • 1 or 1 ½ pound live lobsters

  • Sea salt (or kosher salt)

  • Lemon juice

  • Melted butter

Instructions

  • Bring a large stock pot of salted water to a boil, and plunge the lobsters in the boiling water head first.

  • Cover the pot and cook for about 15 minutes – until they are bright red all over.

  • Use tongs to remove them from the water and let them drain on a large plate or sheet pan.

  • When cool enough to touch, crack their claws with a nut or shellfish cracker, and pull meat from under the shell.

  • Dip in lemon juice or melted butter…or both.
